Biographies of Analysts
Dr. Giuseppe Anzera
Giuseppe Anzera is Lecturer of Sociology of International Relations at La Sapienza University in Rome,
Italy. He is the co-author of La Sicurezza Strategica (Strategic Security, Angeli, 2002) and of
Geopolitca dell'Acqua (Geopolitics of Water, Guerini, 2003), in addition to a number of articles
on international relations. His main areas of research include nuclear and missile proliferation, the
dynamics involving states, sovereignty and non-state actors, change in strategic doctrines, security
transformations, and evolution of the armed forces.
Dr. Bulent Aras
Bulent Aras, an associate professor of International Relations at Isik University in
Istanbul, is an independent political consultant on Turkish and Middle Eastern affairs.
He is the author of Palestinian-Israeli Peace Process and Turkey (Novascience: 1998),
New Geopolitics of Eurasia and Turkey's Position (Frankcass: 2002), Turkey and the
Greater Middle East (Tasam: 2004) and co-editor of Oil and Geopolitics in the Caspian Sea
Region (Praeger: 1999). He regularly contributes to the Lebanese Daily Star,
Al-Ahram Weekly, Kuwait Times, Asia Times, Fars News, and several Turkish
newspapers.
D. Shyam Babu
D. Shyam Babu is a Fellow at the Rajiv Gandhi Institute for Contemporary
Studies in New Delhi. His areas of research include nuclear proliferation,
regional security and arms control. He worked for five years as a
journalist in India. During 1993-94 he was a Ford Visiting Research
Fellow at the Program in Arms Control, Disarmament and International
Security, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Chietigj Bajpaee
Chietigj Bajpaee is a Research Associate at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) in
Washington D.C. He has been a Researcher for the London-based International Institute for Strategic
Studies, for Civic Exchange, a Hong Kong-based public-policy think-tank and a Risk Analyst for a
New York-based risk management company. He has a graduate degree in International Relations from
the London School of Economics and an undergraduate degree in Economics and Government from
Wesleyan and Oxford Universities.
Yevgeny Bendersky
Yevgeny Bendersky is an editor and a senior analyst with the Power and Interest News Report. He previously worked as
the Legislative Assistant on Foreign Affairs for U.S. Congressman Curt Weldon. His analyses
have been printed in Pravda, Asia Times, and an assortment of other publications. He has
degrees in political science and English from Brandeis University, and a Masters Degree in Security Studies and
Conflict Management from the Fletcher School at Tufts University.
Dr. Federico Bordonaro

He holds a Ph.D. from University La Sorbonne in
Paris. He is the co-author of La potenza incompiuta (The Unachieved
Power, Rome, Francoangeli 2005). His main expertise is in the new
structure of the international system after the Cold War, the
European integration process, security and defense issues, and the
renewal of geopolitical thought.
Herman J. Cohen
Herman J. Cohen is a retired U.S. diplomat. His most senior positions were Ambassador to Senegal,
Africa Director in the National Security Council, and Assistant Secretary of State for Africa. He now
lectures at Johns Hopkins University and consults for U.S. business in Africa.
Brian Concannon, Jr.
Brian Concannon, Jr., Esq., directs the Institute for Justice and Democracy in Haiti, located at
http://www.ijdh.org. He formerly worked at the International
Lawyers Office in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, where he spent several years prosecuting
crimes committed during the 1991-1994 Haitian coup.
Dario Cristiani
Dario Cristiani is an analyst in the fields of international relations, geopolitics and political
science. He is a collaborator to Strategic-Road.com and the Italian think-tank Equilibri as a
specialist of Middle East political and strategic issues. He is completing a Masters degree in
International Politics and Relations at the University of Naples Orientale, from which he received a
Bachelor’s degree in International and Diplomatic Relations.
Dr. Sreeradha Datta
Dr. Sreeradha Datta is a Research Fellow at the Institute for Defense Studies and Analyses, New Delhi.

Dustin Dehéz
Dustin Dehéz is the Director of Northeast African Studies at the Düsseldorf Institute for Foreign and
Security Policy (D.I.A.S.), and also serves on the Standing Group on Foreign Policy at the Konrad
Adenauer Foundation. He served in the German army and studied Modern History at the University of Freiburg in Germany
and the University of Durham in the United Kingdom. In early 2005, he worked for the spokesmen on
Defense of the C.D.U./C.S.U. in the German parliament, Christian Schmidt.
Riccardo Fabiani
Riccardo Fabiani is an M.Phil. candidate in International Relations at the Center of International
Studies, University of Cambridge. He is also a contributor to Equilibri.net and the director of
Politicaestera.org. His research interests include Africa, with a particular attention to the
Maghreb countries, E.U. and Italian foreign policy and the history of the Cold War. He holds a BA
in Political Science from the University of RomaTre and has studied at the University of Paris
1–Pantheon/Sorbonne, the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and the Bogazici University, Istanbul.
Jonathan Feiser
Jonathan Feiser is an independent intelligence analyst with a concentration on political Islam
and the historical and security developments of the Levant, in addition to being a contributor to the
Power and Interest News Report. He has degrees in public policy and American history from Penn State
University.
Jephraim P. Gundzik
Jephraim P. Gundzik is president of Condor Advisers, Inc. Condor Advisers has provided investment risk
analysis on emerging markets to individual and institutional investors globally since 1995. Condor's
clients include the world's largest multinational corporations, mutual funds and hedge funds. Condor's
research correctly forecast the devaluations of the Thai baht and Korean won in 1997, Russia's default and
devaluation in 1998, Brazil's devaluation in 1999 and Argentina's default and devaluation in 2002. More
recently, Condor Advisers research has foreseen the generational change in global geopolitical risk that
has driven commodity prices to record highs. Mr. Gundzik has written articles for the Financial Times and

Loro Horta
Loro Horta is an Asian security analyst based in Beijing. He has degrees from Sydney University in
Australia and the Institute for Defense and Strategic Studies at Nanyang Technology University in
Singapore. He is also a graduate of the Asia Pacific Center for Security Studies in Hawaii.
He is a regular contributor to the Straits Times, Asia Times and the Jakarta Post, and
Mr. Horta has been interviewed by ABC Radio Australia, SBS Radio Australia, Singapore National Radio and
France Press.
Marcin Kaczmarski
Marcin Kaczmarski is a Ph.D. candidate at the Institute of International Relations at Warsaw University.
His area of study is Russian-American relations after the Cold War, in addition to Russian foreign policy
and international security. His analyses have appeared in major publications such as Rzeczpospolita.
Mehmet Kalyoncu
Mehmet Kalyoncu is a graduate student at Center for Eurasian, Russian and East European Studies at

Nicholas A. Kenney
Nicholas A. Kenney is currently living in Jerusalem while working for a non-governmental organization
that focuses on conflict resolution. He is a masters candidate at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy.
Prior to starting at Fletcher he practiced law in Boston, focusing mainly on criminal litigation and
administrative law. He earned a J.D. from Boston College Law School where he specialized in international
law and spent his last semester abroad studying and working in London. He also holds a B.A. in history
(concentrating on Modern European and British Empire studies) from the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts.
Soeren Kern
Soeren Kern is the Senior Fellow for Transatlantic Relations at the Grupo de Estudios Estratégicos / Strategic Studies Group in Madrid, Spain. Mr. Kern has served in the United States Air Force and is specialized in U.S.-European defense- and security-related issues. Mr. Kern graduated from the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University in Washington, DC. He has also studied at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Mr. Kern is a citizen of both the United States and of Germany.
P.R. Kumaraswamy
P.R. Kumaraswamy teaches Israeli politics and is an associate professor at the school of International Studies
at Jawaharlal Nehru Univeristy in New Delhi. His forthcoming book, "Historical Dictionary of the
Arab-Israeli Conflict," will be published by Scarecrow Press later in 2006.
Christopher Len
Christopher Len is Assistant Editor of the China and Eurasia Forum Quarterly. He is also Coordinator
for the Energy and Cooperation Project at the Central Asia-Caucasus Institute and the Silk Road
Studies Program, a joint research and policy center affiliated with the Paul H. Nitze School of
Advanced International Studies of Johns Hopkins University and the Department of Eurasian
Studies of Uppsala University in Sweden. He holds Masters degrees from the University of
Edinburgh (Philosophy & Politics) in the U.K. and Uppsala University (Peace and Conflict Research)
in Sweden.
Samuel Logan
Samuel Logan is currently the Latin American correspondent for the International Relations and
Security Network. Mr. Logan specializes in organized crime, black markets, the drug and gun trade,
street gangs, insurgencies, U.S. policy in Latin America, energy security, and development. Mr. Logan
holds a BA in both Psychology and Spanish and an MA in International Policy Studies from the
Monterey Institute of International Studies. He is based in Brazil, prepares a weekly newsletter

Julian Madsen
Julian Madsen is a writer and researcher with al-Jazeera on Middle Eastern affairs. He graduated with a
masters degree in International Relations focusing on Middle Eastern Studies. Having extensive knowledge of Arab
culture and the political, social and economic landscape, Mr. Madsen has lived in Egypt, Syria and Qatar. His

José Carlos Matias
José Carlos Matias is a journalist for TDM-Radio, the public service broadcaster of the Macau Special Administrative Region of China. He has been a regular contributor to the newspaper Hoje Macau and the magazine Macau Business. In June 2007, he completed a Masters in European Studies at the Institute of European Studies of Macau of the University of Macau. His thesis focused on the E.U.-China partnership on the Galileo Satellite Navigation System. In addition to E.U.-China relations, he has been studying cooperation between China and the Portuguese-speaking countries.
Joel T. Meyer

Alok Rashmi Mukhopadhyay

Dr. Harsh V. Pant
Harsh V. Pant is a lecturer in the Department of Defence Studies at King's
College London. He holds a doctorate degree from the University of Notre
Dame and a masters degree from Jawaharlal Nehru University
in India. His research interests include WMD proliferation, U.S. foreign
policy, and Asia-Pacific security issues. He has been published on these issues by a number of

Sudha Ramachandran is an independent researcher and journalist based in

Catherine Zara Raymond
Catherine Zara Raymond is an Associate Research Fellow at the
Institute of Defence and Strategic Studies, Singapore. She is currently
involved in research on maritime terrorism and piracy under the
Institute's Maritime Security Program. She is a co-editor and
contributing author for the volume "The Best of Times, the
Worst of Times. Maritime Security in the Asia Pacific." She
was previously an analyst at the Center for the Study of Terrorism and
Political Violence, St. Andrews University, Scotland.
Dr. Bibhu Prasad Routray
Bibhu Prasad Routray is a Research Fellow with the Institute for Conflict
Management, New Delhi and is involved in research and
documentation activities with regard to conflicts in India's Northeast,
left-wing extremism in India and Islamist extremism in Bangladesh. He was
also the Director of the Institute's Database and Documentation Center on
Conflict & Development (DADC) in India's Northeast at Guwahati in Assam
between August 2001 and February 2005. He received his doctoral degree from
the School of International Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New
Delhi. Dr. Routray has written extensively in various journals, print media
and on the Internet on terrorism, internal security and democracy.
Lora Saalman
Lora Saalman is a Research Associate at the Wisconsin Project on Nuclear
Arms Control. She is a graduate of the University of Chicago, where she
received her BA in Anthropology, and the Monterey Institute of
International Studies, where she received her MA in International Policy
Studies and Nonproliferation. She is fluent in Chinese and French. Her
analyses have appeared in the online journals of the Nuclear Threat
Initiative, Monterey Institute of International Studies and Center for

Emanuela Sardellitti
Emanuela Sardellitti is author of many articles on international relations. Her main areas of
research include the political dynamics in African and Middle Eastern states, political Islam and
Arab societies. She graduated with a degree in Political Science from the Università degli Studi Roma
Tre in Rome and has two Masters Degrees: Peacekeeping & Security Studies (focusing on terrorism,
nuclear proliferation and regional security) and Diplomatic Studies (with the Italian Society
for International Organization). She has also served as trainer at the Italian Embassy in Turkey.
Todd M. Walters
Todd M. Walters is a Research Associate at the Institute for Foreign
Policy Analysis in Cambridge, Massachusetts where he focuses on U.S.
alliance relationships and regional security issues in Asia. He has
worked previously as a teaching assistant in the Department of Political
Science at Tufts University, and as a researcher for the Program on
Humanitarian Policy and Conflict Research at the Harvard School of
Public Health. He graduated from Tufts in 2004 with a major in
classical studies.
Dr. Michael A. Weinstein
Michael A. Weinstein is Professor of Political Science at Purdue University and a senior analyst with the
Power and Interest News Report. He has been the recipient of
Guggenheim and Rockefeller Foundation Fellowships and is the author of 21 books and numerous scholarly
and analytical articles in the fields of general political science and political theory. His analyses have
been printed in many publications, and he has been interviewed on programs such as Chicago's National Public
Radio.
Adam Wolfe
Adam Wolfe is an editor and a senior analyst with the Power and Interest News Report. His analyses

Dr. Jing-dong Yuan
Jing-dong Yuan is Director of Research for the East Asia Nonproliferation
Program at the Center for Nonproliferation Studies, and Associate
Professor of International Policy Studies at the Monterey Institute of
International Studies, where he teaches Northeast Asian security, Chinese
politics, and comparative national security policy. He writes extensively and is the author of over 100
monographs, book chapters, journal articles, and newspaper op-eds, and is
the co-author of China and India: Cooperation or Conflict? (Boulder and
London: Lynne Rienner Publishers, 2003).
